About

Tom McCauley began his musical adventure at the tender age of 6, when he parked in front of the TV, ukulele in hand, and played along with theme songs. His dream was to become the next Roy Rogers. Ignoring warnings that ukulele could lead to harder stuff, he soon began experimenting with guitar, piano, french horn, bass, and anything else that made noise. Before long he was hooked. By Jr. High School, he put together his first rock band and bought an electric guitar. In High School, he explored jazz bass. In college, he studied classical guitar. A string of rock bands followed.

Then he discovered the studio.

Originally hired as a producer, Tom worked for a local recording studio writing and producing jingles. When the overworked house engineer was unable to continue, Tom was forced to cover for him, and a serious interest in engineering was born. It was time to move to the Big City.

Since landing in Los Angeles in 1983, Tom has logged some 330 album credits as an engineer and mixer. For those of you without a calculator, that's an astonishing pace of nearly one record a month for almost 3 decades. Along the way, he has worked with such names as Sting, The Backstreet Boys, Take 6, David Hasselhoff, The Four Tops, Nancy Sinatra, Chubby Checker, The Temptations, John Doe & Exene Cervenka of "X", Cheryl Bentyne, The Manhattan Transfer, Bill Champlin, Peter White, Brian Bromberg, Dan Siegel, Jeff Lorber, Jeff Kashiwa, Jeff Golub, Brad Mehldau, Alan Broadbent, and many, many more. His travels have taken him to studios as far away as New York, Boston, Paris, The Netherlands, and Belgium. He is as comfortable mixing 100 tracks of overdubs as he is tracking a jazz trio. Recent projects have included mixes in 5.1 Surround Sound.

In addition to his engineering work, Tom has performed as a session player on more than 2 dozen albums, he has transcribed, arranged, and produced music for 14 main stage shows for Royal Caribbean Cruises, and his original music has been used for video and television, including NBC's Melrose Place and Passions. He occasionally can be seen performing live with Imaginary Friends.
