Quotes

“Whatever you call them or wherever you hear them, the fact remains these guys have a hold of something special.”
-Pens Eye View

“What’s so heart stealing about this band? Every song on their released free EPs, The Answering Machine, does not disappoint, especially if the listener is looking for some mellow vocals and guitar with a touch of synth.”

About

Malbec is a Los Angeles-based rock–hip-hop–pop band, formed in 2003. They claim to be one of the first few bands to integrate sequenced hip-hop beats with modern pop stylings; their musical style includes influences from Southern hip hop, Britpop, classical compositions and folk music.

They have appeared on a number of TV shows and movie soundtracks, including One Tree Hill, Flight of the Phoenix, Long Way Round, The Omen, Palo Alto and most recently in the episode "Chuck vs. the Colonel" in NBC's Chuck. They are also to be featured on Fox's upcoming show VIP Passport, Kyle XY, Dirty Sexy Money, My Best Friend's Girl. Malbec also recorded "Given the Times" in Simlish for the 2007 Electronic Arts game The Sims: Pet Stories 2.

They have toured with MUTEMATH, Mat Kearney, One Republic, Under the Influence of Giants, Phantom Planet, Rock Kills Kid, Copeland, The Knux, and Tally Hall.

Malbec has released two EPs, working with producers Richard Gibbs and Rick Parker and drummer and songwriter Tony Fagenson. Malbec released a self-produced full-length Dawn of Our Age in March 2008.

Malbec released a series of five EPs in five months, called the Answering Machine EPs. They wrote, recorded and released a new EP every month for five months, from December 2008 to April of 2009.

In 2010, they were featured on The Knux EP entitled "F@&k You" on the song "Fruits," which they co-wrote with The Knux.

They parted ways with their original drummer, Mark Pontius, in December of 2009, but are currently working on a new full length album to be released in 2010.
